Team
APHREA-DST is led by a team of 29 collaborators from Columbia University, Addis Ababa University, and University of Nairobi. Team members come from diverse areas of specialization with a core focus on data science, public health, and biostatistics.
At Columbia University the project is housed at the Department of Biostatistics, chaired by APHREA-DST Contact PI Prof. Kiros Berhane. The Department of Biostatistics is located in the Mailman School of Public Health, also home to additional APHREA-DST partners: ICAP at Columbia, the Department of Environmental Heath Sciences, and the Department of Epidemiology. Columbia University support for APHREA-DST also comes from the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science, the Data Science Institute, the Department of Statistics, and the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory.
At Addis Ababa University, APHREA-DST is housed at the School of Information Science, where Dr. Rahel Bekele is PI. The project is also supported by the School of Public Health, and the Department of Statistics.
At University of Nairobi, APHREA-DST is housed at the School of Mathematics, where Prof. Patrick Weke is PI. The School of Computing and Informatics and the School of Public Health are also partners.

Data Partners
APHREA-DST benefits from a diverse set of data partners including several research projects led by team members, non-governmental organizations, governmental institutions, and private sector companies working public health and data science. Our data partners collaborate with the APHREA-DST team to support hands on immersion training and research experiences for trainees.
Our Data Partners include the GEOHealth Hub (funded by NIH), CAMS-NET (funded by the National Science Foundation), ICAP Columbia (with support from CDC), and AQ Network (funded by the U.S. Department of State) |
